Michael Spenceley; born and bred in Middlesbrough and currently living in London. Michael trained at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, where he won a Wayne Sleep Scholarship. Since graduating he has been working continuously in the arts; performing, choreographing and teaching.
The shows he makes are accessible for all kinds of people, whether they are old or young, whether they go to the theatre all the time or never have before. He loves making work in unusual spaces and specializes in physical theatre and contact work.
He aims to get into the depths of the audience’s heart, by getting to the heart of the show.
As an artist, the most important thing is to make the performance honest. There has to be truth in it, which makes it beautiful, magical. It’s all about keeping it alive and to create a new world on the stage.
Michael is represented by Associated Arts.
Michael will be movement director on Anna Bolena at Longborough Festival Opera 2019
