Dancer / choreographer
My name is Michael; born and bred in Middlesbrough, I currently live in London. I trained at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, where I won a Wayne Sleep Scholarship. Since graduating I have been working continuously in the arts; performing, choreographing and teaching.
The shows that I make are accessible for all kinds of people, whether they are old or young, whether they go to the theatre all the time or never have before. I love making work in unusual spaces and I specialize in physical theatre and contact work.
I want to get into the depths of the audience’s heart, by getting to the heart of the show.
As an artist, the most important thing to me is that a performance is honest. There has to be truth in it, which makes it beautiful, magical. It’s all about keeping it alive and to create a new world on the stage.
My most recently projects included being movement director on Simplicus Simplicissimus at Sadler's Wells, Max the Brave with the Britten Sinfonia and I performed in The Loves of Mars and Venus with Barefoot Opera. I am currently touring with Trapped, by Experiential Dance.
